It's been a week since my last update, but that doesn't mean it's been quiet! It certainly wasn't quiet this afternoon watching the Carling Cup Final - well done Liverpool (and Cardiff too!) - I can't say I enjoy penalty shoot outs, but who cares when you're team win!!!
So, Tuesday night I went out (alone again! Homework!!) - with Canford Bottom Roundabout's side roads now fully shut, i varied the route with a loop back up St John's Hill - I'm a sucker for punishment. 9.9 miles in all with 559 feet of climbing. Thursday night was a Turbo session with Bon Jovi, all set up for the weekend!
Saturday morning I headed out with Sam to do a 40+ ride - Sam's first big one this year, so I think, on reflection, we were a bit ambitious but we cracked 40, took in an extended route up from Blandford towards Shaftsbury, with a right turn at Iwerne Minster for a climb of just over a mile & just about 400 feet - that's the first time I've beaten Sam up a hill for about 2 years!! We dropped down through Stubhampton & onto the Salisbury road before coming back via Long & Moor Crichel - 40.2 miles & 2,900 of climbing - well done Sam & thanks for your company!
Out again this afternoon, this time a similar route to last Sunday, but without the hail! I shortened it to 31.4 miles, but still took in the 1.5 mile climb to Ashley Wood Golf course, but I wanted to get back before the football started!! 79 cadence today & 0.7 mph faster than last Sunday - so I was pleased with that.
In total 5,000 feet of climbing this weekend - my 4 stages of the Cycle Slam are 15,000 feet of climbing, so I'm building well for that!!
On the Sponsoring front, I raised another £325 this week, plus gift aid, so I'm nearly at the £2k mark! You can now sponsor by text: RIDER5 or RIDER10 (for £5 or £10) to 70300 followed by my rider number of 504. Feel free to text & share this with whoever you can!!!
Luke's team had a good mid-table game today, coming out on top 3-2 - Luke had a solid game in goal & continues to make us proud!!
Looking forward to a Tuesday night ride with Jack +/or Sam!!
Well done, again Liverpool!! & thanks to my wonderful family for an enjoyable afternoon in front of the final!
Keep pedalling
Andy
